A scandal is breaking out in Polish football. Immediately five players came under suspicion after, how investigators discovered more 5400 prohibited bookmaker bets, related to their personal accounts.
The investigation is being carried out by the disciplinary commission of the Polish Football Association. The players are charged with violating the article 80 (item 1) disciplinary regulations, which directly prohibits active football players from participating in bets, especially at a match of your sport.
According to the federation, the investigation already has serious evidence - including full betting histories, found on the accounts of suspected athletes, reports.
What is known so far
Disciplinary charges are being prepared for all five players;
at least, two football players may be temporarily banned from participating in the Polish Championship and Cup matches;
if it turns out, that someone was betting on games with their participation, the punishment may become much more severe - up to many years of disqualification.
The names of the players have not yet been disclosed - the investigation continues.
Why is this a serious problem
In European football, the participation of athletes in betting is considered a serious disciplinary violation, because it may affect the integrity of the competition. Therefore, the federations strictly control the following cases.
In Poland itself the rules are especially strict: players and all participants in the football system are prohibited from betting on football matches in general, regardless of the country of the tournament.
